Notes: Micro kind - grasses on tussocks, depressions in adjacent areas. Weather - overcast 50 degrees F. Vegetation species - Dominant: Reed Canary Others: buttonbush, red maple only along stream bank. Sample taken for textural analysis Cg2 horizon.

 

Oi-- 0 to 2 inches; fragmental material; common very fine and fine roots; abrupt smooth boundary. difficult to distinguish live roots from dead; also, the silts give it a creamy feel when rubbed

A1-- 2 to 3 inches; dark reddish brown (5YR 3/2) silt loam; moderate fine and medium granular structure; friable, nonsticky and slightly plastic; common very fine and fine roots; 5.2; abrupt wavy boundary.

A1-- 3 to 6 inches; very dark gray (10YR 3/1) silt loam; few fine prominent very dark grayish brown (2.5Y 3/2) mottles; moderate fine and medium granular structure; friable, nonsticky and slightly plastic; common very fine and fine roots; 5.2; abrupt wavy boundary. oxidized root channels with live roots

Cg1-- 6 to 12 inches; dark gray (10YR 4/1) silty clay loam; few fine prominent reddish brown (5YR 4/4) and common fine prominent very dark grayish brown (2.5Y 3/2) mottles; massive; friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; common very fine roots and common fine; 5.6; clear wavy boundary. oxidized and stained root channels--not live roots observed in most; possible weak, coarse, prismatic structure
