Oi-- 1 to 0 inches; fibric material; abrupt wavy boundary.
A-- 0 to 9 inches; very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) silt loam, gray (10YR 5/1) dry; moderate fine and medium granular structure; very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common very fine and fine roots and common medium; 4.4 Bromcresol green; abrupt smooth boundary. Fine (0.5 cm) bands of lighter colored (2.5Y 5/2) very fine sands.
C-- 9 to 17 inches; very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) silt loam; common fine and medium prominent reddish brown (5YR 4/4) mottles; weak massive; friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common very fine roots and common fine; 4.6 Bromcresol green; abrupt smooth boundary. Few light gray, uncoated, quartz sand grains; possible weak granular structure; mottles 15% surface area; also, some very faint blotches of gray mottles could be seen but colors were not contrasting enough to record different color.
Ab--17 to 20 inches; very dark gray (10YR 3/1) silt loam; few fine distinct dark grayish brown (2.5Y 4/2) and prominent dark reddish brown (2.5YR 3/3) mottles; weak massive; friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common very fine roots; 4.6 Bromcresol green; abrupt smooth boundary. Fine (0.5 cm) bands of lighter colored (2.5Y 5/2) very fine sands; possible weak angular blocky structure; mottles 15% of surface area.
C1--20 to 37 inches; very dark gray (10YR 3/1) silt loam; common fine and medium distinct dark reddish brown (2.5YR 3/3) and faint dark gray (10YR 4/1) mottles; weak massive; friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common very fine and fine roots; 4.6 Bromcresol green; clear wavy boundary. Mottles 30% of surface area.
C2--37 to 54 inches; dark gray (5Y 4/1) silt loam; common fine and medium prominent dark reddish brown (2.5YR 3/3) mottles; weak massive; friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; 6.4 Chlorophenol red; clear wavy boundary. Mottles 12% of surface area; unusually high jump in pH, possibly result of groundwater associated with river water.
C3--54 to 72 inches; dark gray (5Y 4/1) silt loam; few fine and medium prominent brown (7.5YR 4/4) mottles; weak massive; friable, nonsticky and nonplastic. Distinct rotten egg smell, interpreted as hydrogen sulfide. |
