Oi--0 to 1 centimeters (0.0 to 0.4 inches); peat; strongly acid, pH 5.2, Hellige-Truog; abrupt wavy boundary.

Oe--1 to 5 centimeters (0.4 to 2.0 inches); partially decomposed organic matter; strongly acid, pH 5.4, Hellige-Truog; abrupt wavy boundary.

Ap--5 to 25 centimeters (2.0 to 9.8 inches); black (10YR 2/1) sandy loam; massive; very friable; common fine and medium roots throughout and common coarse roots throughout; 5 percent subangular 75-to 250-millimeter mixed igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rock fragments; very strongly acid, pH 5.0, clear wavy boundary.
