Notes: Description taken from old test pit, pedon was excavated to expose fresh face, sunny, breezy 50F, Gravel pit to north excavated to watertable at approx, 20 to 25 feet on 4-94

 

Oi-- 1 to 0 inches; black (7.5YR 2/1) ; clear wavy boundary. Undecomposed pine needles, leaf, twig, and grass material.

Oe-- 0 to 1 inches; very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) ; common fine and medium roots throughout; abrupt wavy boundary.

A-- 1 to 3 inches; very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) very fine sandy loam; massive; very friable, slightly sticky and nonplastic; common coarse roots throughout and common fine and medium throughout and common very fine throughout; 5.0 Chlorophenol red; 1 percent subrounded gravel; abrupt wavy boundary.

Bw1-- 3 to 12 inches; yellowish brown (10YR 5/8) very fine sandy loam; massive; very friable, slightly sticky and nonplastic; common fine and medium roots throughout and common very fine throughout; 4.7 Chlorophenol red; 5 percent subrounded gravel; gradual wavy boundary.

Bw2--12 to 22 inches; yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) very fine sandy loam; weak medium and coarse subangular blocky structure; very friable, slightly sticky and nonplastic; common coarse roots throughout and common very fine throughout and common fine and medium throughout; 4.8 Chlorophenol red; 5 percent subrounded gravel; abrupt wavy boundary.

BC--22 to 7 inches; yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) gravelly loamy coarse sand; massive; loose, nonsticky and nonplastic; common very fine roots throughout; 4.9 Chlorophenol red; 20 percent subrounded gravel; clear wavy boundary.

2C--27 to 65 inches; brown (10YR 5/3) very gravelly coarse sand; single grain; loose, nonsticky and nonplastic; common very fine roots matted around stones and common fine throughout; 5.2 Chlorophenol red; 35 percent subrounded gravel and 5 percent subrounded cobbles. Mixed color of individual sand grains, 10YR 5/3 to 10YR 6/3. Gravelly COS material continues to a depth of approximately 6-8". Below this depth the material consists of med-fine sands (delta slope deposits). Mixed minerology, largest clast = 6" sub-rounded cobble.
