Notes: Samples collected for laboratory analysis at University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA. Pit described to 50"; no change observed > 50" (augar method); mapped Paxton - pan too shallow.

 

Oi-- 2 to 0 inches; fibric material; common fine to coarse roots throughout; abrupt smooth boundary.

 

A-- 0 to 1 inches; black (10YR 2/1) fine sandy loam; massive; very friable; common very fine and fine roots throughout; 4.8 Chlorophenol red; 0 percent mixed gravel and 5 percent subangular mixed cobbles and 5 percent subangular mixed stones; abrupt smooth boundary

 

Bw1-- 1 to 5 inches; dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) gravelly fine sandy loam; massive; very friable; common very fine and fine roots throughout and common medium throughout; 5.0 Chlorophenol red; 5 percent subangular mixed gravel and 5 percent subangular mixed cobbles and 5 percent subangular mixed stones; abrupt irregular boundary.

 

Bw2-- 5 to 14 inches; yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) gravelly sandy loam; weak medium subangular blocky structure; very friable; common fine and medium roots throughout; 5.2 Chlorophenol red; 10 percent subangular mixed gravel and 10 percent subangular mixed cobbles and 5 percent subangular mixed stones and 5 percent mixed channers; gradual wavy boundary.

 

Bc--14 to 16 inches; yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) gravelly sandy loam; massive; friable; common fine roots throughout and common very fine throughout; 5.2 Chlorophenol red; 10 percent subangular mixed gravel and 5 percent subangular mixed cobbles and 2 percent angular mixed stones; clear wavy boundary.

 

Cd1--16 to 23 inches; brown (10YR 5/3) gravelly sandy loam; weak medium platy structure; firm; common very fine and fine roots throughout; 5.3 Chlorophenol red; 15 percent subangular mixed gravel and 5 percent subangular mixed cobbles and 5 percent angular mixed stones; gradual wavy boundary.

 

Cd2--23 to 50 inches; light yellowish brown (2.5Y 6/3) gravelly sandy loam; few fine prominent yellowish red (5YR 5/6) and common medium prominent yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) mottles; weak coarse platy structure; very firm; 5.3 Chlorophenol red; 20 percent subangular mixed gravel and 5 percent subangular mixed stones and 2 percent angular mixed stones.
