A--0 to 3 centimeters (0.0 to 1.2 inches); black (10YR 2/1) sandy loam; friable; medium vesicular and medium tubular pores; very strongly acid, pH 5.0, pH meter 1:1 water; common very fine to coarse roots throughout; abrupt broken boundary.

Bw1--3 to 23 centimeters (1.2 to 9.1 inches); strong brown (7.5YR 5/6) sandy loam; friable; medium vesicular and medium tubular pores; strongly acid, pH 5.2, pH meter 1:1 water; common very fine to coarse roots throughout; clear wavy boundary.
