Notes: Partly sunny, cool, 50 degrees F., extremely stony surface - avg. surface stone is 4-6' in diameter; water table @ 100 cm - seepage at 90 cm; mapunit may have till > 73 inches. Poor conditions for color determination - late afternoon low angle of sun.

 

Oi-- 2 to 1 inches; partially decomposed organic matter; clear smooth boundary.

Oe-- 1 to 0 inches; dark reddish brown (5YR 3/2) mucky peat; abrupt smooth boundary.

A1-- 0 to 1 inches; black (7.5YR 2/1) sandy loam; weak fine subangular blocky structure; very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common coarse roots and common fine and medium and common very fine; 4.8 Bromcresol green; 1 percent subangular mixed stones and 3 percent subangular mixed cobbles and 10 percent subrounded mixed gravel; abrupt smooth boundary.

E-- 1 to 2 inches; pinkish gray (7.5YR 6/2) loamy sand; single grain; loose, nonsticky and nonplastic; common fine and medium roots; 5.0 Bromthymol blue; 1 percent subangular mixed stones and 3 percent subangular mixed cobbles and 10 percent subrounded mixed gravel; clear broken boundary.

Bs-- 2 to 3 inches; brown (7.5YR 4/4) sandy loam; massive; very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common coarse roots and common fine and medium and common very fine; 5.2 Bromthymol blue; 5 percent subangular mixed gravel and 5 percent subangular mixed cobbles; clear wavy boundary.

Bw1-- 3 to 8 inches; yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) sandy loam; massive; very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common fine and medium roots and common very fine; 5.4 Bromthymol blue; 5 percent subangular mixed gravel and 5 percent subangular mixed cobbles and 1 percent subangular mixed stones; clear wavy boundary.

Bw2-- 8 to 20 inches; yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) loamy sand; few coarse prominent yellowish red (5YR 5/8) and few fine faint yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) mottles; massive; very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common fine and medium roots; 5.3 Bromthymol blue; 7 percent subrounded mixed gravel and 1 percent subangular mixed stones and 1 percent subangular mixed stones; clear wavy boundary.

Bw3--20 to 29 inches; dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/6) loamy sand; common medium distinct brown (10YR 5/3) and common coarse distinct strong brown (7.5YR 4/6) mottles; weak medium and coarse subangular blocky structure; very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common fine and medium roots; 5.4 Bromthymol blue; common fine irregular iron-manganese concretions; 5 percent subrounded mixed gravel and 5 percent subangular mixed cobbles; abrupt wavy boundary. 5YR 2.5/1 felmn concentrations (soft); 1 large 3" pocket containing many, coarse felmn concentrations (pocket is firmer than surrounding horizon).

C1--29 to 37 inches; grayish brown (10YR 5/2) loamy sand; common coarse prominent strong brown (7.5YR 4/6) and common coarse prominent reddish gray (5YR 5/2) mottles; weak coarse subangular blocky structure; friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; 5.4 Bromthymol blue; common coarse irregular iron-manganese concretions; 7 percent subrounded mixed gravel; clear wavy boundary.

C2--37 to 43 inches; yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) sand; common coarse distinct strong brown (7.5YR 4/6) and common coarse prominent dark reddish brown (5YR 3/4) mottles; single grain; loose, nonsticky and nonplastic; 5.6 Bromthymol blue; 7 percent subrounded mixed gravel; clear wavy boundary.

C3--43 to 60 inches; brown (10YR 5/3) sand; common medium and coarse distinct yellowish brown (10YR 5/8) mottles; single grain; loose; 5.6 Bromthymol blue. Mottles - few, coarse, prominant, 7.5YR 4/2; augar to 73" not change in C3 horizon; may have till > 73"
