Photos from the Fall 2003 Soil Tour of Block Island, Rhode Island
Background: The society hosted a soil, ecology, and geology tour of Block Island, Rhode Island on September 24 and 25, 2003. Thirty members met on the island located 13 miles south of RI and enjoyed perfect weather, great food, and beautiful scenery. We toured 10 soil pits where Mark Stolt and Charley Morgan had collected water table data for Charlie's masters thesis, learned about the ecology of the island by the Nature Conservancy and Niels Barret, and learned about the geology of the island by Dr. Jon Boothroyd, State Geologist and URI professor. The following are images of the tour, click on the photo to view a larger image.
