INFORMATION FOR WORKSHOP:

Map of Meeting Location - 10 Gay Street, Sharon, CT at the Sharon Farm Market meet by 8:30 (MAP LINK)

We will meet at the Sharon Farm Market parking lot on Rt. 41 in Sharon, CT at 8:30 AM.  Field Stop 1 is a wet till site at Tory Hill Nature Preserve on 41 a few miles north.  Bring your own brown bag lunch is at  junction of Rt. 63 and Rt.7 in South Canaan, CT at a small gas station, with picnic area. Field Stop 2 after lunch, on Page Road, park in day care lot, site is across the road on TNC land on the south end of Robbins Swamp. Good outwash site in a wet meadow, shrub wetland. A field workshop jointly sponsored jointly by the Society of Soil Scientists of Southern New England and the Connecticut Association of Wetland Scientists. Friday September 25, 2015 8:30 am-4:00 pm (Raindate: Saturday 9/26/15)

·         How to know whether a site contains calcareous soils
·         Why the expression of redox features is muted in calcareous soils
·         Applying Connecticut Wetland Methodology
·         Detailed Soil Descriptions
·         Criteria for distinguishing hydric from non-hydric calcareous soils
·         Indicator plants associated with calcareous soils
 
Cost: $75 for SSSSNE or CAWS members, $85 for non-members Workshop includes morning snack, but not lunch—bring your own lunch.
