Notes:

Many lacustrine areas have sandy material deposited over the silts and clays. It is important to dig deep enough o confirm the fine textured sediments, look for signs of wetness from the bottom and see if it connects to the surface. Glacial marine deposits may be found several hundred feet in elevation along the NE coast of Massachusetts and along the southern coasts of Maine and New Hampshire. Heavy marine/lacustrine clay deposits (commonly called "Vergennes" clay) are located in the Lake Champlain area of Vermont.
