Notes:

The terms fluvial and outwash are often used interchangeably. There was so much water held up in the glacier that sea level was hundreds of feet lower than present day levels. When the climate began to warm and the ice retreated, huge rivers of melt-water flowed off the ice and deposited fluvial sediments.
